Motion Handoff Specification

Creava Editorial$32 USD

Document an animation so another designer or developer can understand the intent without guessing from a rendered clip. Capture the trigger, start and end states, duration, easing, interruption behavior and reduced-motion alternative. Keep decorative motion separate from information that must remain available.

Inside the scope

  • Motion behavior specification
  • Timing and easing reference table
  • State and interruption checklist
  • Reduced-motion planning worksheet
  • Generic configuration example
A complete motion note states when it starts, what changes, how long it takes, whether it can be interrupted, and what a reduced-motion user sees instead.

Compatibility & delivery

Application-neutral planning files. JSON examples are descriptive data and require adaptation before use in production code.

Documentation templates, not a motion engine, plugin or implementation service.

This page provides scope information and a text preview. Listed files or individual review sessions are not automatically delivered by saving a selection.

PRODUCT IN CONTEXT / CREAVA EDITORIAL

A closer look at the fit.

A working situation

For an expanding details card, document the trigger, initial and final layout, timing and available actions. Decide what happens if the card is closed halfway through or another card is opened. Specify a nonspatial alternative, then ask the implementer to walk through all states before refining the easing curve.

Which interruption cases belong in the specification?

Include repeated triggers, leaving the view, delayed completion and failure states that the interaction can encounter. State the expected visible result for each case, not only the timing of the ideal sequence. The specification should let an implementer identify behaviour that a polished animation preview cannot show.

Can I paste the generic JSON directly into production?

Not without adaptation and validation. The JSON illustrates descriptive fields; it is not a library, plugin or integration contract. Map it to the actual application's state model and units, implement a reduced-motion alternative where appropriate, and test the resulting behaviour in context.

Understanding motion recipes and specifications

Can I install the JSON file in an animation application?

The JSON is application-neutral descriptive data. It is not a native application preset or plugin. A designer or developer must interpret and adapt the settings to the tool or codebase where the motion will be implemented.

What is the difference between the two motion products?

The Timing Recipes offer six starting patterns and their purposes. The Handoff Specification helps document a particular design, including triggers, states, interruption behavior and a reduced-motion alternative. One supplies starting references; the other organizes the final decision.

Are the recommended timings suitable for every interface?

No. They are starting points for comparison. Test the motion in its actual context, including repeated actions, loading, interruption and reduced-motion settings, and change the values when the behavior calls for it.
